Nightmare on Downing Street

By Ned Simons
- 28th April 2011

Whatever you do don't fall asleep, lest you have erotic dreams about the chancellor.

George Osborne has wished a BBC radio presenter "sweet dreams" after she admitted to having sexy dreams about him.

Radio 5 Live breakfast presenter Shelagh Fogarty was making her final breakfast show appearance this morning before taking up a lunchtime slot.

She received a surprise message from the chancellor on air.

She had previously been "rumbled" as having had erotic dreams about the chancellor but in the interests of "political balance" insisted she had also previously dreamt about former Labour leader Neil Kinnock.

"Well, Shelagh it's George Osborne here," he said. "I just wanted to say it's sad to be losing you from the breakfast programme, but I know you'll do a great job on the lunchtime programme.

"It does give you of course more hours' sleep every day. More hours for those dreams you've been having. So I'm sure you'll have sweet dreams and I look forward to being interviewed by you on your lunchtime programme."

Sweet dreams? Or a Freddy Krueger-esq nightmare. I suspect Fogarty may start suffering from some self-imposed insomnia.
