MPs to debate phone hacking
9th September 2010Downing Street will come under further pressure today, as MPs prepare to hold an emergency debate in the Commons on allegations of phone-hacking at the News of the World.
Andy Coulson, who edited the tabloid before becoming David Cameron's communications chief, faces new allegations from a former senior reporter at the paper that he was fully aware of what was going on.
Paul McMullan has told the Guardian that phone-hacking and other illegal reporting techniques were rife at the paper and that Coulson new what was going on. Coulson has denied the allegations.
This high profile debate will then be followed by a backbench business committee debate on armed forces in Afghanistan.
Outside of the Houses of Parliament this morning deputy prime minister Nick Clegg will give a speech to the Institute of Government where he will say ministers will be given more time to prove themselves in their jobs without fear of being reshuffled.
