Meet the director of sensation

By Tony Grew
- 3rd December 2010

It is a title to rival anything Lord Mandelson acquired.

On Tuesday the Lords science and technology sub-committee will be hearing evidence from one Richard Wright, director of sensation, perception and behaviour at Unilever.

The subject?

Behaviour change.

The committee's website explains:

"The inquiry, to be conducted by sub-committee under the chairmanship of Baroness Neuberger, will investigate, amongst other things, the policy implications of recent developments in research on behaviour change, whether current government behaviour change interventions are evidence-based and subject to appropriate evaluation, and the relationship between government, industry and the voluntary sector in promoting behaviour change."

Wright will be joined by Rory Sutherland, President of the IPA and Chairman of the Ogilvy Group; Tim Duffy, Chief Executive, M&C Saatchi; Mark Baird, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Diageo; Mr Chris Sorek, Chief Executive, Drinkaware; Mr Tony Hawkhead, Chief Executive, Groundwork; and Ms Debbie Bannigan, Chief Executive, Swanswell.

The same day the Commons public administration committee will be asking the question: What do ministers do?

Norman Baker and Mike Penning will attempt to explain.

And on Wednesday MPs Mark Durkan, Jane Ellison, Paul Flynn, Duncan Hames and Nick Raynsford will give their views on ministerial statements to the Commons procedure committee.
