Lib Dems 'living within their means'

By Ned Simons
- 10th March 2011

Yesterday the Liberal Democrats admitted the party was running a deficit for the first time in its history after losing the £1.7m in public funding their were entitled to when in opposition.

As a result the party has been forced to move out of its central Westminster Cowley Street HQ in order to find cheaper, smaller accommodation.

Perhaps this was on party president Tim Farron's mind when the party issued a press release today promoting their Spring conference in Sheffield.

Defending the party's "excellent and valuable work" in government he said: "Liberal Democrats are showing that while we make tough decisions to live within our means, we can also invest in the future."
