I bet Sharon looks good on the dancefloor

Sunderland's finest was in the Commons today trying to get a bill passed to crack down on ticket touts.

Sharon Hodgson's private member's bill was talked out by Tory opponents, but in the course of her remarks she managed to drop a few names.

She let slip that she had spent the previous evening in conversation with the manager of Arctic Monkeys, a musical combo popular with young people and, allegedly, Gordon Brown.

Hodgson was full of praise for the work of the Teenage Cancer Trust and JLS, Lemar, Robbie Williams, Tom Jones and Brandon Flowers were all name-checked.

Somerset Tory Jacob Rees Mogg was not impressed with her argument.

Hodgson complained that touts were selling tickets for a recent Help for Heroes gig cost £46, but touts were selling them online for an average price of £106, thereby making more than the charity.

JRM, a fan of the market, observed:

"If the charity fails to sell its tickets for the market price, which is £106, that is its fault. It ought to investigate other ways to sell its tickets, such as eBay, to maximise its return, rather than our introducing a harsh legislative measure."

So Rees Mogg has heard of eBay. That undermines his young fogey image somewhat.
