Female peers to make maiden speeches

Five new members of the House of Lords will make their maiden speeches today during a debate marking the centenary year of International Women's Day.

Former Labour MP Oona King, Baroness King of Bow, will speak, along with Rachel, Baroness Heyhoe-Flint (Conservative), former captain of the England Women's Cricket Team.

Lib Dem peer Sal, Baroness Brinton (Liberal Democrat), who is a director of the Ufi Charitable Trust which helps young people find employment, will also make her debut, along with Anne, Baroness Jenkin of Kennington (Conservative), a public relations consultant and treasurer of Women2Win and Ruth, Baroness Lister of Burtersett (Labour), emeritus professor of social policy at Loughborough University.
