Constituency names are 'boring', says MP

    By Ned Simons
    - 9th September 2010

Too many constituency names are "boring" according to Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Tristram Hunt.

The historian-turned-MP told the Commons political and constitutional reform committee this morning that he would rather be the MP for "The Potteries" than for "Stoke-on-Trent Central".

"Could I suggest constituencies that have the names north, east, south and west are very boring do not promote identity or affection," he said.

Hunt was addressing witnesses from the Boundary Commission who were discussing the proposed redrawing of constituencies to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600 as desired by the coalition.
