Cameron to face committee grilling
By Philippa Silverman - 6th May 2011
The prime minister will make his first appearance of 2011 before the liaison committee on May 17.
David Cameron will answer questions next Thursday for one and a half hours on two themes: prospects for growth in the economy; and overseas intervention and the military capacity to support it.
It is the first of three meetings the committee, made up of the 33 chairs of the select committees, is expected to hold with the prime minister this year.
This marks a change in approach from the committee, shifting from meetings held bi-annually and for two and a half hours. It will also see a smaller group of committee chairs quizzing the premier.
The session will be in the Grimond Room and will be open to journalists with parliamentary passes and other passholders.
Committee chair Sir Alan Beith said: "We welcome the fact that the prime minister has agreed to appear before us three times a year rather than two.
"These shorter sessions focusing on fewer topics should enable us to question him in greater depth, and in a more concentrated way."
