Benn - the Commons comedian
By Tony Grew - 28th April 2011

The business statement is one of the must-see events of the parliamentary week, mainly because of shadow leader of the House Hilary Benn.
Benn has honed his appearances at the dispatch box into a formidable stand-up comedy act.
Among the highlights this morning were his observation that the health secretary Andrew Lansley must be hoping that his mantra "no decision about me without me" will be taken into account if the PM decides to remove him.
Then there was a seemingly-innocent request for a debate about "placements in Whitehall", that went on to say that some Lib Dems who "have been given work experience as government ministers" are unhappy at the way they are being treated.
Benn went on to claim the coalition is going "horribly wrong" and suggested a super-injunction to prevent stories of disunity from being published and "protect the relationship from more publicity".
Leader of the House Sir George Young also has a neat turn of phrase and can raise a laugh.
When Robert Halfon asked for a debate on the achievements of Margaret Thatcher, the bicycling baronet recalled he played "a modest role" in her government, with "something of a hiatus".
Benn and Sir George did agree on one thing -they both wished Prince William and Katherine Middleton the very best for their wedding tomorrow.
