Baroness stands by chav tweet

A member of the House of Lords has created something of a mini Twitter storm with after she said she was "trapped in a queue in chav-land".

Baroness Hussein-Ece's comments are all the more surprising as she is an equality and human rights commissioner.

In between tweets on the Sharon Shoesmith case and the arrest of Mladic, the Lib Dem peer shared this:

"Help! Trapped in a queue in chav-land! Woman behind me explaining Eastenders plot to mate, while eating largest bun I've ever seen."

That tweet appears to have been deleted, but there are several more from the Baroness defending her position, including:

"This peer from working class immigrant family spent a lifetime helping ppl from deprived families."

"I don't consider chav a derogatory term. I was actually surrounded by v loud aggressive teenagers, who were rude to ppl around them."

When @RichardOsley complained that "the term 'chav' is a bit snobby and socially divisive. Horror, horror, some people like Eastenders", she replied:

"Its endearing term in my part of town. Shouting loudly in my ear while eating, isn't nice."

Twitter, eh? It's always getting politicians in hot water.
