Backbench committee to try new debate format
By Sam Macrory - 2nd December 2010

The backbench business committee has decided to trial a "different format" in the last debate before the Xmas holidays.
Committee chair Natascha Engel said the new format will be tried at the adjournment debate on Tuesday 21 December.
She hopes it will provide "a better structure for debate and an improved response from the government".
There are 30 speaking slot up for grabs, each to last up to ten minutes.
MPs are invited to apply with a subject and the name of the government department they would like a response from.
Following the adjournment debate format, the successful applicants will be drawn at random until all slots are filled.
Speeches will then be grouped into subject areas to be tackled by the relevant minister, who will be invited to answer.
Interested MPs should apply to the table office by 3pm on Monday December 13th.
