Baby's arrival 'drove MP to smoking'

By Tony Grew
- 2nd February 2011

Tory MP Daniel Kawczynski seems like a healthy sort of fellow, but yesterday he admitted to a short-lived nicotine habit.

During a Westminster Hall debate on maternity services, he recalled the stresses and joys of becoming a father.

"Maternity services are an extremely emotive issue," he said.

"When my daughter, Alexis, was born at the Royal Shrewsbury hospital, it was the most emotional day of my life.

"As a non-smoker, I smoked two packets of cigarettes that day."

Yes, we know the type - the "non-smoker" who then bums fags off those more committed to their smoking.

Let us hope that will be last of Kawczynski's dealings with the evil weed
