Babies in the voting lobby?

By Tony Grew
- 6th May 2011

Lib Dem MP Jo Swinson has tabled an EDM drawing attention to the "challenges" faced by MPs who are parents of young babies.

She calls for the recommendations of the Speaker's conference on parliamentary representation to be implemented.

"The House Service should review the circumstances in which a child under the age of one may accompany his or her hon. Member parent within restricted areas of the House of Commons," the EDM states, "expresses concern that the combination of House sitting hours and the usual hours of childcare provision means babies have been left in whips' offices during late night votes; recognises that allowing children under the age of one to accompany their hon. Member parent into the voting lobby would solve a genuine problem; and invites the Speaker to issue guidelines to that effect."

Incontinent cry-babies who don't know how to speak allowed in the voting lobby?

You can think up your own punchline.
